Back to School Edition🌟

Message From the Principal

Welcome Back, Husky Families!

We are excited to welcome you and your family back for another incredible school year at Metzler Elementary!

Our theme for the 2026–2027 school year is "WE ARE Metzler." More than just a theme, it reflects who we are as a school community and the values we choose to live out every day. At Metzler, we believe every child deserves to feel seen, valued, respected, and connected. We are committed to creating a school where every student knows they belong, has trusted adults who care about them, and feels confident to learn, grow, and take on new challenges. Together, we will continue building a community where kindness, collaboration, and high expectations help every Husky thrive.

We know that the partnership between home and school plays a vital role in helping students feel successful and connected. Your support, encouragement, and involvement make a tremendous difference, and we are grateful to partner with you throughout the year. When families and schools work together, students are more likely to feel a strong sense of belonging and achieve their very best.

As we kick off the school year, here are a few helpful tips to ensure a smooth transition back:

Stay connected with your child’s teacher and our campus staff.

Establish routines at home that support learning and rest.

Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns—we’re here to help!

Please be on the lookout for our monthly campus newsletter, which comes out the first Wednesday of every month. These updates will include important dates, events, and celebrations you won’t want to miss.

We also hope to see you at Meet the Teacher Night on Monday, August 10th, 4:30-6:00 PM—a great time to connect, ask questions, and get ready for an amazing year.

Let’s make this a year to remember.

Warmly,

Danis Boone,

Principal, Metzler Elementary

Back To School Volunteer Opportunity

We have a few exciting opportunities to support our Huskies as we kick off the new school year!

Please consider volunteering for Bus Buddies during the first week of school. Bus Buddies is a partnership between Klein ISD and our volunteers to help ensure elementary students safely get off the bus at the correct stop during the first few days of school.

We are looking for one Bus Buddy for each elementary bus on August 12–14, 2026. The time commitment is approximately 3:00–5:00 PM each day.

To volunteer, you must first complete the  KISD Volunteer Application. Please note that the approval process typically takes 5–7 business days, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible if you have not already done so.

Please bring your child’s school supplies with you to the event so they’re ready to go on the first day.

If you still need to purchase supplies, you can find the list on our school website: Metzler.Kleinisd.net under the Family Resources tab.

We look forward to seeing you there and starting the year off strong together!

Reminders for the New School Year

To help maintain our new carpet and keep our classrooms clean, safe, and focused on learning, we are updating our expectations around water bottles.

Effective immediately, we ask that students bring only:

  • Water only (no juice, sports drinks, or flavored beverages)

  • Spill-resistant bottles with lids that do not have exposed straws (such as flip-tops, spouts, or twist caps)
(Stanley-style cups, open tops, or straw lids should be left at home.)

These simple changes will help prevent spills, reduce distractions, and support a clean learning space for everyone.

Thank you for your support in helping our students stay hydrated in a safe and responsible way. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Car Rider Drop Off and Pickup Procedures

CAR RIDER Drop Off PROCEDURES

Car Rider Drop off is on the south side of the building facing West Rayford Road

  • Students may start entering the building at 7:40

  • Families can access either of the two morning drop off lanes. We recommend that families of PreK, Kinder and ACCESS use the lane closest to the building.

  • Please see the car rider drop off map below.

  • Please make sure car riders have their backpacks and exit vehicles expeditiously, on the passenger side.

  • Students may not be dropped off in the parking lot.

  • The shortest wait times are between 7:40-7:50. You will experience longer wait times after 7:50.

  • We ask that all adults stay in their car while dropping students off, when parents/guardians get out of their cars it delays drop off and can cause a back up and delay students from getting to class on time. If your child needs assistance, roll down you window and a staff member will assist.

  • Please place a tag on your child's backpack that includes their first and last names and the name of their teacher.

  • There will be staff members stationed in the hallways to assist them in finding their classrooms.

CAR RIDER PICKUP PROCEDURES

Car Rider Pickup is on the south side of the building facing West Rayford Road

As you know traffic can be congested the first week of school especially during afternoon pickup. Please be patient as students learn the routine. You can help by ensuring your child knows his/her car rider number on the first day of school.

During dismissal, classrooms will be notified of car rider numbers as cars arrive and students will be dismissed to the car rider area in waves.

  • We ask that all drivers follow the designated car rider route and be attentive by refraining from talking and/or texting in the school zone. The safety of our children, faculty, and staff is our upmost priority.

  • Please see car rider pickup map below.

  • Dismissal begins at 3:25

  • To pick up students in the car rider area, you will need a car rider tag in your windshield. If you do not have a car rider tag you will need to go to the front office for an ID check.

  • Car rider tags will be issued during Meet the Teacher.

  • Families with students in multiple grade levels will be issued a car number based on the grade of the youngest child.

  • Each family must have their own car rider tag - You will need a car rider tag for your child(ren) and the car rider tag of the child(ren) that is riding with you.

  • The lane closest to the school will be reserved for Pre-K and Kinder students. The other lanes will be reserved for families of students in 1st-5th grades.

  • All cars in the immediate pick-up area must be loaded before cars are allowed to move forward.

  • If your child is not in the vehicle when the line moves, you will need to loop around and get back into the line.

  • We ask that all adults stay in their car while picking students up, when parents/guardians get out of their cars it delays pick up and can cause a back up and delay dismissal.

  • Please remove your car rider tag from your windshield once your child(ren) is in the vehicle. This will help us determine when the line can move forward to exit the pick-up area.

  • Parking at other locations and walking up to the porch and crossing through the car rider lanes or in front of school buses is not safe and will not be permitted.

🚌 26-27 Transportation Information 🚌

Use the link below to look up your student's bus route and to find more information about transportation.

Website: Search for Bus Routes

Please Note...

  • Your child should be at their bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time.

  • Although every effort is made to keep the system current, some bus numbers may change.

  • Students will be given wristbands and bus tags the first day of school. Please make sure that your child has the colored wristband attached to his/her backpack each day during the first week of school.

  • The bus lane is on the east side of the building facing Hofius and cars are not permitted to enter this lane/lot during arrival and dismissal times. Only students riding buses are permitted to enter or leave in this area.

Pre-K Students

It is the policy of the Klein Independent School District that no pre-kindergarten student will be dropped off at the residence in the afternoon home trip unless there is a responsible caretaker there to receive the student. If a responsible caretaker is not available, your child will be returned to his/her campus and you will be notified by the school to pick your child up at that location.

Kinder-2nd Grade Students

We do not require, but encourage parents with children in grades kindergarten - 2nd to be at the bus stop or have a responsible adult meet the bus in the afternoon. This assures the bus driver that your child is in safe hands. If no one is available for this purpose, please notify the bus driver that your child can be dropped off unattended.

You can track your child while on the bus using the Parent Smart Tag Portal. Available in an APP as well

SMART TAG

Klein ISD uses the SMART tag ID card system to increase student safety, streamline management of students riding on school buses, and allow access to campus services via easy scans.

The district purchased the first lanyard, card and plastic cover for every student. Parents will be required to pay for replacement cards, plastic protective covers, or lanyards if they are broken, lost, or stolen. Every student is required to have a Smart Tag. Parents will be contacted by our front office staff when a replacement is needed. Parents will need to pay for the replacement via School Cash Online. A link will be emailed to you. Once payment has been received the front office will provide the replacement.

Replacement fees:

Smart Tag = $5.00

-lanyard = $2.00

-plastic protective cover = $1.00

Dismissal/Transportation Information

One of our main goals is to get your students back to you at the end of the day safely.

We are a large campus and work to get all students home very quickly. The end of the day can get hectic, so we ask for your help, cooperation and understanding.

Transportation Changes:
If your child will be going home a different way, please let the FRONT OFFICE know right away, cut off time for change of transportation is 2:45pm. Telling the teacher is wonderful, but sometimes they can't check voicemail or email until it is after school-so your best option is always the main front office. (832-484-7901) If messages are not cleared or given in time, please know the teachers are trained to send kids home their regular way unless cleared by administration. We CANNOT take a child's word for it when it comes to leaving school safely.

ā° Early Dismissals:
All early dismissals must be completed before 2:45 PM to ensure a smooth and safe end-of-day process. Once you arrive, the front office will call for the student to come down. Please plan for a few extra minutes to allow us enough time to get the student. We are unable to have the student waiting in the front office, prior to your arrival. As a reminder parents, you must have a physical copy of your government-issued ID to check your child out.

šŸš—Car riders
Student's will be given a car rider number for parents to display on their rearview mirror during pick-up. If you are sending someone different to pick up your child, please alert the front office and be sure that person brings their driver's license for us to check. We will not release students to any person not on the approved pick-up list unless authorization is given by the primary custodial parent. All car riders will be picked up in the cafeteria parking lot. It is imperative that you follow all Metzler employee instructions for efficiency and safety purposes.

⭐Day Care
Before and After School Day Care: If you are interested in Campus Kids for before or after school, please visit this link for more information. Please note Campus Kids is not Klein ISD sponsored and is a 3rd party business who rents our facilities. Campus Kids is picked up at the school cafeteria parking entrance. A Campus Kids employee will greet you and follow their sign out procedures. Campus Kids students must wait until all Klein ISD buses and dismissal traffic is finished before being released to the cafeteria or signed out.

Before enrolling at Metzler, your student must be up to date on ALL vaccinations OR have an up-to-date exemption from the State of Texas. No student will be assigned a homeroom teacher if ANY medical information or immunization record is incomplete and will be unable to start class until cleared by administration.

Medication at School: All medication—both prescription and over-the-counter—must be delivered to the clinic by a parent or guardian.

Prescription medications must be in the original container with the pharmacy label clearly showing the student’s name and dosage instructions.

Unused medication cannot be sent home with students. If you cannot pick up the medication personally, please arrange with the school nurse for another authorized adult to do so.

Please note: Vitamins, health supplements, and herbal remedies are not permitted to be administered at school.

Medication Authorization

Prescription medications must be brought to and picked up at the clinic by a parent or guardian where it will be inventoried with the parent or guardian. Neither prescriptions or non-prescription medications from foreign countries will be administered. When administering prescription medicines, the school district must have a written statement from a physician or dentist licensed to practice in the United States. Prescription medication will not be administered to students until the school nurse receives the written physician statement.

Nonprescription or Over The Counter (OTC) medications at the elementary school level will be kept in the nurse’s office and administered by the nurse or another authorized district employee. At this level, these medications must be brought to and picked up at the clinic by a parent or guardian where it will be inventoried with the parent or guardian.

To make a written medication request, the Klein ISD Medication Authorization Form is available from the school clinic. If the circumstances are questionable, the school employee reserves the right to deny the parent's request.   All prescriptions must be filled by a pharmacist licensed to practice in the United States At the end of the school year any leftover medicine or associated supplies not picked up by the parent will be destroyed.

This is an excerpt from the Klein ISD Student Handbook, please refer to the handbook for the full statement on medication in the school setting.

🐾 Support Our PTO!

Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) plays an important role in supporting our students, staff, and school community through special events, campus improvements, teacher appreciation, and so much more.

When you attend Meet the Teacher, be sure to stop by the PTO table, at the front entrance of the school to learn about the many ways you can get involved. We also encourage you to consider becoming a PTO member. A membership is a great way to support our school and does not require you to serve on the PTO Board or volunteer your time—it's simply another way to invest in our Huskies!

Klein ISD Annual Volunteer Application

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we are excited about the many events and activities we have planned to enrich our children’s educational experience. However, we need your support to not only have these events but to make them successful and memorable.

Volunteering for school events is more than just a way to help out—it’s a chance to become actively involved in our school community, connect with other families, and, most importantly, show our children that we value their education and experiences. Your involvement helps us create a vibrant, engaging environment where students can thrive.

We understand that everyone has busy schedules, and finding time can be challenging. That’s why we offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to fit different schedules and interests. Whether you can help for an hour, a few hours, or on specific days, your contribution makes a big difference.

Klein ISD Volunteer applications for the 2025-2026 school year are now being accepted. The Volunteer Application is an annual application. Security is a priority in Klein ISD, all volunteers must reapply every year. Attendance Counts

Klein ISD is dedicated to academic achievement and success for all students. Regular school attendance is an essential part of that success starting in Pre-kindergarten and continuing through high school. Students who are absent from school, miss out on learning. Improving student attendance is a key strategy to ensure students are on-track to learn and to reach their full potential. Parents and families play a key role in making sure students get to school every day and on time.

See Student Handbooks to learn more about attendance requirements.

You may contact your child's campus and ask to speak with the Attendance Office for more information.

Did you know?

Children who miss too many days in kindergarten and 1st  grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade.

By 6th grade, chronic absence is a proven early warning sign for students at risk for dropping out of school.

In the 9th grade, school attendance is a better indicator than test scores of a student’s likelihood to graduate from high school.

Student Absences

Reporting Student Absences

All student absences require a written excuse from a parent or guardian to be submitted within 5 days of the student’s return to school.

How to Submit an Excuse Note:
Klein ISD's preferred method for reporting absences is by entering the information in Skyward Family Access.

Other acceptable forms of documentation include:

A note from a medical professional

Please note that we are unable to accept absence notifications submitted via:

Email to the front office, registrar, teachers, or other staff members

For additional details, please refer to the Attendance Policy section of the Klein ISD Student Handbook.

Birthday Procedures

Students can give birthday party invitations at the end of the school day. Please ensure you invite either the entire class, only boys, or only girls. We do not give out student phone numbers, home addresses, or other parent contact information. Thank you for your cooperation!

We LOVE celebrating our students and making their birthdays feel extra special! Below are some fun ways we celebrate birthdays at school—plus a few important guidelines to help keep everyone safe and included.

While non-food treats are always encouraged (think stickers, pencils, or classroom games!), we recognize that food may sometimes be part of classroom activities or special events.

We recommend ordering snacks from the Klein ISD Nutrition & Food Services team! They have yummy, safe options and take care of the prep.

Parents/guardians are allowed to provide a birthday snack for their child's birthday. The following guidelines apply to such snacks:

The campus nurse will be given a two week advance written notice of the parent / guardian decision to provide food items to students with a list of ingredients.

In the case of commercially prepared food, the product label must be provided, including the complete ingredient list and all information about production line exposure to known food allergens.

All snacks must be individually wrapped and packaged in a disposable container. Schools will not be responsible for parents’ personal kitchen items.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Birthday snacks will be handed out at the end of the lunch period, once students have had a nutritious meal.

If snacks arrive after your child’s lunch, we can’t give them out
