Dear Roth Families,

Happy October! As we continue our theme—Once Upon a School—we’re reminding our students (and ourselves!) that every day is a new page in their learning story. Your partnership makes you co-authors in this adventure, and we’re grateful for the way you help set the scene at home.

A reminder that Attendance Matters-Consistent attendance is how students keep the plot moving. Please aim for on-time arrivals—first bell learning sets the tone for the whole day (doors open at 7:40 am and we begin learning at 8:05 am).

Thank you for your partnership and for believing—along with us—that every child is the hero of their own tale. Here’s to a month full of curiosity, kindness, and great plot twists!

Please assist us in the handling of custody related agreements. It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to provide the registrar with a certified copy of the most recent court order affecting any individual's rights related to the child. For questions or concerns regarding custody, please contact our principal, Christin Murphy.

Early Dismissals & Transportation Changes: We want our Rams in school from arrival to dismissal to ensure strong instruction and skill building. We understand, however, that some appointments may require early pick-up.

  • Attendance: Please make every effort for students to be present for attendance at 10:00 a.m. For questions, contact Andrea Hill, Assistant Principal.

  • Early Dismissals: All early pick-ups must occur before 2:45 p.m. Call the front desk at (832) 484-6600 and sign out your child in the office before that time. After 2:45, students will only be released through regular dismissal. Please note, we will not call your child from class until you arrive.

🚌Bus Information🚌

Buses, daycare vans, and special transportation drop off and pick up in the side lot near the cafeteria only.

Bus information search form-click here

*Bus information is only available for students that are attending their home campus and riding on a regular education bus.

  1. Complete the search form with your street address (house number, street name and zip code are required).

  2. Specify a campus or grade level (without grade level you will see results for all three campus levels).

Please Note...

  • When to be at the bus stop? Your child should be at their bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time.

  • Bus number changes. Although every effort is made to keep the system current, some bus numbers may change.

  • If you move, you will need to change your address with the campus and ask them to submit a change to transportation.

  • If your student is a special education student

A request must be submitted by the campus to the transportation department to set up transportation for your students before the bus information will be available.

🚗Car Rider Information🚗

All car riders will use the front entrance at the flagpole and our fabulous NEW AWNING for both drop-off and pick-up. Please refrain from using your cell phone while in the carpool line-it is unlawful to use when operating a vehicle in a school zone.

Arrival Carpool Procedures

Cars: For morning drop-off, please pull all the way up past the flagpole to the first staff member. This helps us expedite the process and allows more vehicles to unload at once. Remain in a single lane until you exit the parking lot. For safety reasons, do not drive around cars that are unloading. Please also pay close attention to our crosswalk staff member, who will hold up a stop sign to allow pedestrians to cross safely. Car lane will close at 8:05am. Please do not drop off your child to enter on their own after this time. We are asking that you bring them in so they can arrive to school safely.

Parking Lot: If you need a longer goodbye in the morning, please park in the front lot and walk your child to the door using the crosswalk. Please do not drop off your child in the parking lot. If parking, you must walk them to the front door.

Dismissal Carpool Procedures

Cars: Please display your car tag clearly at all times in the driveway so staff can match your child to the correct car. Cars turning left into the parking lot must stay in the outer lane closest to the lot, while cars turning right must stay in the inner lane closest to the school. Do not switch lanes, as this affects student cone assignments. Pull forward to the cones, staying aligned with the cars beside and in front of you. Students will load once all cars are stopped and the whistle is blown. If your child is not at their cone, you may be asked to park so staff can safely locate them. Cars will be released one lane at a time.

Afternoon car loading runs 3:25–3:45 PM. After 3:45, you must park and sign out your child in the front office. Offices close at 4:00 PM; if you cannot arrive before then, please consider Koala Kare after-school care.

Parking lot: If directed to park before 3:45, a staff member will bring your child to you. Without a car tag, you must park, show ID, and pick up your child from the front office.

🚶Walker Information 🚶‍➡️

Walkers must use crosswalks near the bike racks or at Temple Bell & Castlemont when arriving to campus and leaving campus. Parents and students will not be allowed walk through the parking lot or fire lane. Grade 2-5 walkers are expected to leave campus with a staff member to the area at the end of the bike racks or at Temple Bell crosswalk. PK-1 walkers will be dismissed to parents with a tag at the gate near the t-buildings. Please wait outside the fence to allow for smooth student movement and safety. Staff will escort walkers off campus. Students will be dismissed starting at 3:28 PM.

Please do not park on both sides of Bridgemont (bike rack area) during arrival and dismissal. This blocks buses from exiting the parking lot and creates safety issues for crossing to and from the building safely due to the high volume of cross-traffic.

Great Expectations

GE model badge

Great Expectations at Roth

Roth Elementary is a Great Expectations Model school. This program helps students reach high levels of success, as we incorporate the Great Expectations model into our school culture. As we follow our Klein ISD vision of Promise 2 Purpose, Great Expectations is a perfect way to help ensure every student succeeds. The students will learn and practice the 8 Expectations for Living, displayed throughout the school and in your child’s classroom. The students will also learn valuable Life Principles (Character Traits) that they can use in their daily lives to be great citizens.

The 8 Great Expectations

  1. We will value one another as unique and special individuals.

  2. We will not laugh at or make fun of a person’s mistakes nor use sarcasm or putdowns.

  3. We will use good manners, saying, “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” and allow others to go first.

  4. We will cheer each other to success.

  5. We will help one another whenever possible.

  6. We will recognize every effort and applaud it.

  7. We will encourage each other to do our best

  8. We will practice virtuous living, using the Life Principles.

Visit the Great Expectations website for more information: Great Expectations Website

Student Tardies/Absences

Instruction begins at 8:05 and teachers are not on duty after this time. Students arriving after 8:05 will need to come in through the front doors with a parent. We appreciate your help with making sure all students arrive on time and safely. We encourage you to get your child to school on time every day to avoid missing character and academics our teachers provide from arrival to dismissal. Missed minutes add up quickly leading to gaps in learning! Students who are not in their seats at 10am will be counted absent for the day.

How do I submit an absence?

Entering an absence in Skyward is Klein ISD's preferred method of communication for absence reporting.

Other acceptable methods of notification are:

  • hand written note from parent/guardian

  • note from a medical professional

Attendance Matters

Birthday Snacks through the Cafeteria

Happy birthday to you

KISD permits parents / guardians or grandparents to supply birthday snacks for their child’s birthday through the KISD Food Service Department. Please email our food service manager at abousquet1@kleinisd.net for more info and a list of items available.

Birthday snacks will be distributed for the entire class at the end of the lunch period, after students have had a nutritious meal as defined by the School Lunch Program and Texas Department of Agriculture.

Written consent from a parent / guardian must be obtained before a student will be permitted to have a birthday treat.

Two weeks notice is required for ordering birthday snacks through Klein ISD food service. As always, parents are welcome to eat lunch with their child at the parent table and bring a special treat or lunch for their own personal child.

Complete the form here and send to abousquet1@kleinisd.net

Images of technology that is not allowed during the instructional day

As we prepare for the start of the school year, we want to make sure our families are informed regarding a new state law, House Bill 1481, that was recently passed by the Texas Legislature.

Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, this new state law prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the instructional day while on school grounds. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, earbuds, and any other device capable of digital or telecommunication.

What This Means for Our Students

Students may bring personal communication devices to school, but they must be turned off, out of sight, and stored away in their backpack, pocket, laptop sleeve, or other personal belongings while on school grounds from the first bell to the end of the instructional day, including during class, passing periods, lunch, and recess.

The law requires disciplinary consequences for the use of personal communication devices during the instructional day while on school grounds. Exceptions are provided for students covered under a Section 504 plan or an Individualized Education Program (IEP) that includes personal communication devices as an accommodation. Access will be permitted as outlined in their individual plans.

Communication and Support

The majority of our schools implemented similar personal communication device expectations for students last school year and found that their students were less distracted, resulting in more focused learning environments and increased positive face-to-face interactions for students and staff.

Prior to the first day of school, we encourage you to discuss this new Texas law with your children and emphasize the importance of focusing on learning throughout the school day. School leadership will also communicate to students the expectations and consequences for failing to keep personal communication devices off and out of sight when they return to school.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to ensure a positive, safe, and focused learning environment for all students.
