The Counselor's Corner

Dear Koala Families,

My name is Erica Villarreal, and I am your school counselor here at Kuehnle.

As we begin the school year, it has been wonderful to learn about our Koala Ts of Success. These guidelines represent our campus expectations for behavior in various areas throughout the building. You will find posters in these locations for both staff and students to refer to as reminders of the Koala Ts. Be sure to check them out during your visits!

This month, our Koalas will be visiting the Calming Cave with their class and teacher. Our lesson is titled "Words Matter," where we will discuss the importance of choosing our words carefully—whether spoken or written—and how those words impact everyone around us.

If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Best regards,
Mrs. Villarreal, aka Mrs. V

School Lunch Visitors

Lunch kit

To help set our students up for success, we will spend the first few weeks of school teaching lunchroom expectations and procedures. This focused time helps students build independence, understand routines, and enjoy a calm, structured lunch experience.

Lunchtime is also a valuable opportunity for students to connect with their peers and begin building the friendships they’ll continue to grow throughout the year. 💛

We will begin welcoming lunch visitors starting Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

To ensure a safe and structured environment, only a student’s parents, grandparents, legal guardians, or family may visit and have lunch with their child.

Students may not have lunch with another student’s parent, grandparent, or guardian, even with parental permission.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe!

School Age Lunch Visitors

We truly appreciate seeing our former students, but we request that intermediate and high school students not visit Kuehnle during lunch. Attendance is crucial, and we wholeheartedly support the initiatives of other campuses in this regard. If a student is unable to attend their own school due to health issues, it is important for them to stay home for their own well-being. Our priority is to ensure the health and safety of all our Koalas.

Dismissal Procedures

🚙 Car Riders

  • Official school car rider number tags must be displayed in the front windshield.

  • Please keep your car rider number tag displayed until your child gets in your car. After your child enters your car, please remove your carpool card from the windshield. This is our signal that your child is loaded.

  • Please be patient in the car line. Remember that safety is always a priority at Kuehnle. Be mindful that students are still moving until we give the go ahead to move cars forward.

  • Please refrain from using your cell phone in a School Zone, including waiting in the car rider line. There are Texas State Laws which prohibit the use of cell phones while in a school zone.

🚲Walkers/Bike Riders

  • Walkers will be issued a ‘dismissal card’ by their teacher.

  • Walkers will turn this card in to the staff member on duty at the assigned walker exit. This will be the student’s ‘ticket’ to leave the school building at the end of each day.

  • Walkers do not walk to cars in the parking lot. Any student leaving school grounds in a car must be picked up in the Car Rider line.

  • For safety reasons, do not park your car in the parking lot during dismissal unless you are required to come into the building.

🚌 Bus Riders

Students will receive a bus SMART Tag which must be attached to his/her backpack the entire year. Please do not remove this card.

  • Student must remain seated at all times.

  • Students must keep hands, feet and objects to themselves.

  • Refer to the Klein ISD Student Handbook for a more detailed list.

☔ Parents, please plan ahead with your child for rainy days. Consider packing a raincoat or umbrella for them to use. If you do not want your child to be a walker/biker on rainy days, please notify the front office of a change of dismissal before 2:45 PM.

All changes to a student’s regular means of dismissal must be received in the front office by 2:45 PM. You may email kuehnlefrontdesk@kleinisd.net

Class Adjustments

Thank you

During the first few weeks of school, your child’s classroom assignment may be adjusted. These changes are sometimes necessary to ensure balanced class sizes, accommodate staffing changes, or support instructional grouping that best meets student needs.

Any changes are made with careful consideration and are intended to enhance the overall learning experience for all students. If your child’s placement needs to be adjusted, you will be notified through both a letter and direct communication.

We appreciate your understanding and support in helping make any necessary transitions as smooth as possible for your child.

Campus Procedure on Birthday Invitations

happy birthday

Parents may send invitations to teachers for distribution in the classroom. Please ensure you invite either the entire class, only boys, or only girls. Thank you for your cooperation!

Student Absences

Reporting Student Absences

All student absences require a written excuse from a parent or guardian to be submitted within 5 days of the student’s return to school.

How to Submit an Excuse Note:
Klein ISD's preferred method for reporting absences is by entering the information in Skyward Family Access.

Other acceptable forms of documentation include:

  • A handwritten note from the parent/guardian

  • A note from a medical professional

Please note that we are unable to accept absence notifications submitted via:

  • Email to the front office, registrar, teachers, or other staff members

  • Message sent through Apptegy

For additional information about attendance, please click HERE.

Thank you for helping us maintain accurate attendance records and ensure a smooth process for all families.
