A Note from the Principal

Spring Payne

Dear Bearcub Families,

It is my joy and privilege to serve as the proud principal of Kleb Intermediate, and I am beyond excited to start the 2025–2026 school year with our incredible Bearcubs! We have been diligently preparing for their return and cannot wait to welcome them back.

We also have great news to celebrate—our Symphonic Band placed 9th in the TMEA State Honor Band Competition! We are so very proud of their talent, dedication, and the hard work they’ve put in to earn this outstanding recognition. Congratulations to our amazing students and director!

In addition, we are excited to share that the final stages of our campus construction—made possible by the 2022 Bond—are nearly complete. The updates include a full renovation of our main hallway, featuring a brand-new ceiling, updated lighting, and upgraded electrical systems. Campus Standards and Expectations

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones may only be used before arriving on campus and after leaving for the day. During school hours, students are expected to keep their phones and headphones (wired or wireless) stored out of sight in their backpacks or purses before entering the building and throughout the day. Phones are not allowed in hallways, classrooms, restrooms, or the cafeteria.

Key points to remember:

  • Students must put away phones and headphones prior to entering the building; phones should not be in their hands or pockets.

  • Students who do not follow this rule will have their phones confiscated and sent to the grade-level discipline office.

  • Confiscated phones must be picked up by a parent or guardian; they will not be returned directly to students.

  • Only wired headphones are permitted during instructional time, as directed by teachers. Bluetooth or wireless earbuds are prohibited for safety reasons.

  • If a parent or guardian needs to contact their student during the school day, please call the school office to have a message delivered.

More information will be shared in upcoming newsletters.

ID

ID Badges

Safety is our top priority at Kleb. At the start of the school year, every student will receive a new ID badge. All students are required to wear their ID badge visibly around their neck on a lanyard, with their name and photo clearly displayed. This policy helps ensure the safety of all Klein ISD students and is part of our dress code.

If a student arrives at school without their ID badge on any day, they must purchase a temporary ID band for $1 at the ID station in the cafeteria before school. Consequences reset at the start of each grading period. Here is the sequence of consequences for not wearing the ID badge:

1st: Purchase temporary ID ($1), warning
2nd: Purchase temporary ID ($1), parent contact
3rd: Purchase temporary ID ($1), 1 school detention
4th: Purchase temporary ID ($1), 2 school detentions
5th: Purchase temporary ID ($1), 3 school detentions OR 1 Saturday school
6th: Purchase permanent ID ($5), 1 day in-school suspension (ISS)
Additional Offenses: Considered major non-compliance

Kleb administration reserves the right to adjust consequences as needed.

Student Tardies

A student is considered tardy if they are not inside the doorway of the classroom at the time the bell finishes ringing to signal the beginning of class.

Tardy Consequences: Tardy counts start over at the beginning of each week. Consequences are as follows:

1 Tardy: Free
2 Tardies: Warning
3 Tardies: 1 day before/after school detention
4 Tardies: 2 days before/after school detention
5 Tardies: 3 days before/after school detention
6 or more Tardies: 1 day in-school suspension (ISS)

Kleb Administration reserves the right to adjust consequences at any time.

Students who arrive more than 15 minutes late to class will be considered absent without permission (truant), and a discipline referral will be submitted.

Dress Code

Dress Code

Please refer to the Student Handbook [here] for our dress code guidelines. To help maintain a positive and respectful school environment, students are expected to follow the dress code. If the dress code is not followed, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the student code of conduct.

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

Arrival

The school opens for student entry at 8:35 a.m. Students dropped off before 8:35 a.m. will not be supervised, which creates a safety concern. Before school, students may only be dropped off in the Lyons Road Parking Lot. Please remain in your vehicle and follow the car rider drop-off line, which enters by the tennis courts on Lyons Road. Parking in the Kleb parking lot is not allowed, as students would need to cross bus traffic, creating a safety risk.

Please note that breakfast service ends promptly at 8:50 a.m., and the tardy bell rings at 8:55 a.m.

Arrival

Dismissal

Students may only be picked up after school in the Lyons Road Parking Lot. Pick-up in front of the school is not allowed. All car riders will exit the building through the gym entrance for pick-up. Parking in the Klein High School parking lot is prohibited, and students will not be permitted to walk across that lot.

To help ease traffic on Lyons Road, parents should form two lanes approaching the cones, where the lanes will merge into one. Cars will exit in an “airport-style” pattern. Please be mindful when the Klein High School Band is practicing nearby.

For the safety of our students, please remain in your vehicle while in the car rider line and follow the directions of school staff to ensure a smooth and safe dismissal.
