Jaguars Journey

Dear Families,

Reading is one of the most powerful ways to support your child’s learning, and the library is excited to partner with you! Daily reading at home, especially reading for pleasure, helps children build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and develop a lifelong love of books. Even a few minutes each day makes a big difference.

Students in Grades K–3 visit the library weekly, while PreK and Grades 4–5 visit every other week. During these visits, students have the opportunity to check out books that match their interests and reading levels.

All students may also exchange books before school or during the day, with teacher discretion. We want students to always have something exciting to read!

If a library book is lost or damaged, families may choose to replace it with a new or gently used hardcover copy of the same title (such as from Amazon) instead of paying the replacement fee.

Thank you for encouraging reading at home and helping us nurture confident, joyful readers. Please reach out to the library if you have any questions.

Happy Reading,
Mrs. Newberry

🌟 Look at What We’re Learning in 2nd Grade! 🌟

In reading, our second graders are learning how to better understand informational texts by identifying what the text is mostly about and the details that support it.

📘 What We’re Learning

Students are learning to recognize the characteristics and structures of informational text, including identifying the central idea and the supporting evidence, with adult guidance.

✅ Students Can…

Identify the central idea of a text

Find supporting evidence that explains or supports the central idea

📚 Vocabulary We Are Using

Central Idea – the big idea readers should understand after reading a text or section of a text

Topic – the person or thing a text is about

Supporting Evidence – details in the text that help explain the central idea

💡 How Families Can Help at Home

Ask your child what a nonfiction book is mostly about

Have your child share one or two details that support the main idea

Read informational texts together and talk about the topic and key details
